THE PICTISH ENIGMA

The Picts were certainly an enigmatic people. They may not have handed down a written language but they left a great legacy in stone that tells us much about their lives and the world that they came from.

In the village of Meigle a few miles from Alyth and The Singing Kettle you will find Meigle Museum. It was once a Village School but now houses 30 Pictish Standing Stones. These artefacts, which well reward closer study, carry much Christian symbolism (they come from a time shortly after this people converted to Christianity) and are studded with imagery of wild and domestic animals, intricate designs and the people themselves.

The Picts were a formidable Race. They may not have left a language but they were highly cultured, operated something very close to a democracy and even defeated the Romans in a sea battle.

Why not take time to look into Angus's fascinating and long distant past.
